Frequently Asked Questions

How does therapy work?

Therapy begins with a supportive, trusting relationship—one where you feel seen, heard, and understood. Within that space, we explore your development, relationships, coping patterns, and emotions. Together, we identify what has helped you and what may be holding you back, working to create new strategies aligned with your values and goals. Therapy fosters greater insight, emotional flexibility, distress tolerance, and more fulfilling relationships.

What does getting started look like?

We’ll start with a free 15-minute phone consultation to explore what you’re looking for in therapy and whether we’re a good fit. You can ask any questions you have about my approach or services. If it feels right, we’ll schedule your first session.

What can I expect after the phone consultation?

In our initial sessions, we’ll talk about your history, current concerns, and therapy goals. I’ll also consider whether my approach feels like a good fit for your needs. From there, we’ll decide together if it feels right to continue. Sessions are typically 45–50 minutes once per week, though frequency and duration are tailored to your needs.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in-network only with the Mt. Sinai UMR Top Tier Plan. For all other plans, I’m considered an out-of-network provider, which means you’ll pay me directly after each session. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits and may reimburse you for a portion of the cost. I’ll provide a detailed receipt (a “superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance. You’re welcome to contact me if you need help understanding this process.

Do you see clients virtually or in-person?

Both! I primarily offer virtual sessions, but in-person appointments may be available depending on scheduling and availability.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Yes—research shows online therapy can be just as effective as in-person care. Modalities like EMDR, Brainspotting, and hypnotherapy can also be highly effective online for most concerns.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice and we’re unable to reschedule within the same week, you’ll be responsible for the session fee. Please note that insurance does not reimburse for missed sessions.

How do I know therapy is working?

Progress can show up in many ways—sometimes subtle, other times more noticeable. You might feel more grounded, more aware of your emotions, or better equipped to navigate challenges. Over time, patterns may shift, relationships may deepen, and you may develop a clearer sense of self. Growth isn’t always linear, but small changes often hold deep meaning. We’ll regularly reflect on your progress to ensure our work continues to align with your goals.
