How does therapy work?
Research has consistently shown over time that one of the most important aspects of therapy being effective is having a supportive, trusting relationship with a therapist in which you feel seen, heard, and understood. Within the context of this relationship, we explore your development, relational patterns, coping strategies, defenses, and emotions. We identify that which has served you, and that which no longer is working and generate new ways of coping in line with your values and goals. Therapy promotes the development of insight, distress tolerance, mental flexibility, and improved relationships.
What does getting started look like?
We will speak by phone for a free 15-minute consultation to determine if we may be a fit to work together. In this call, you can discuss what you are hoping to work on in therapy and ask questions about my services. If we determine we would be a fit to work together, we may proceed to schedule an initial appointment.
What can I expect after the phone consultation?
In the first meetings, we will discuss your history, symptoms, treatment goals, and determine if I feel I can assist you. At the end of this period, we will determine if it makes sense to proceed with treatment. Therapy sessions are generally 45-50 minutes weekly, and the duration of treatment depends on your individual needs.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, meaning that you pay me directly for services after each session. However, many insurance plans have out-of-network benefits that provide a substantial reimbursement for treatment. I provide a superbill after each session that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to verify your benefits.
Do you see clients virtually or in-person?
Both! I am mainly doing virtually at this time, but also can accommodate requests for in-person, depending on scheduling and availability.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Studies have demonstrated that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. In addition, treatments such as EMDR, Brainspotting, and hypnotherapy are all effective online with most issues.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide 48-hours notice for cancellations, or you will be responsible for the cost of your session. There is no charge if you cancel with less than 48-hour notice, and we are able to reschedule your session for the same week. Please note that insurance companies generally do not reimburse you for missed session fees.
